May 10, 2024 - Mental Health Awareness Month, Women's Health Week, National Walking Month
Mental Health Awareness Month is celebrated during the month of May to raise awareness about making informed food choices and developing healthy eating and physical activity habits.
Some important data to note of:
- 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 6 youths experience mental illness, and only half receive treatment
- 21% of unhoused people and 20% of U.S. Veterans experience mental illness
According to the Lynn Community Health Assessment reported that the health status for Lynn residents is worse than those across the state reporting:
- 23% experiencing Depression
- 19% experiencing Poor mental health
- 12% experiencing Poor physical health
- 16% experiencing Frequent Mental Distress
Women's Health Week is every March 24th. “Yes! We can end TB” continues to be theme as TB is still one of the world’s deadliest diseases with an increase in drug-resistant TB in recent years. This day is a reminder to everyone the impact of TB around the world and the importance of educating the public about tuberculosis.
National Walking Month is on March 6, raising awareness for those who are struggling and those who have lost their lives to substance use disorder.
