Overview
The Maintenance Craftsman performs a wide variety of craftsman duties including, but not limited to, both general and skilled work in carpentry, painting, plastering and other trades under the general supervision of either Working Foreman Maintenance Craftsman or Maintenance Craftsman in Charge, and the Supervisor of Maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities
Performs miscellaneous maintenance and repair tasks on municipal buildings and property requiring journeyman skill in at least two (2) of the following areas in decreasing level of importance: carpentry, lock installation and repair, roof repair, door installation and repair, glazing, drywall, plastering, furniture repair, grounds maintenance, and painting.
Performs such duties as painting, repairing roofs, doors, locks, furniture, cabinets, shelves, stairs, and sinks.
Performs some electrical work not requiring a licensed electrician such as replacing cords, fuses and light fixtures.
Maintains and repairs motors, fans, and furnaces.
Replaces pipe and performs other plumbing maintenance or replacement duties.
May spend a small portion of the time working on the grounds cutting grass, trimming shrubs, and doing other grounds maintenance duties.
Incidentally, may supervise a small crew of workers at a lower skill level such as laborers, helpers, and maintenance staff.
Maintain equipment and tools in good operating condition.
Keeps work area(s) clean and orderly, eliminates safety hazards, follows prescribed safety and work rules and regulations.
Completes any paperwork or duties required to comply with maintenance work order system.
Pick up and load materials, supplies, equipment, ladders and staging.
Deliver required material, tools, and supplies to and from work site.
Position is subject to shift assignment.

Qualifications
Must be able to show and verify a minimum of five contiguous years’ experience working for a licensed contractor.
Must be able to show verifiable skills in at least two (2) of the areas above, according to their level of importance.
Must possess or be able to possess: RRP certification and 10-hour OSHA training, CSL preferred.
Must be willing to become licensed and work as a de-leader in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in accordance with 454 CMR 22, including participation in all medical monitoring and work protection and practice.
Three years’ experience in the use of computers in the workplace.
Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts drivers’ license.

*Per agreement with AFSCME Local 1736, an employee working 11AM-7PM will receive a 10% shift differential.
**Please note that the salary scale is projected according to contractually negotiated salary increases between the City and AFSCME Local 1736 through Fiscal Year 2025.
