Work Hours: Up to 35 hours per week, scheduled between 8AM-5PM as determined by the Deputy Chief of Administration.
Location: In-person at LPD headquarters; requests for a hybrid (in-person and remote) schedule could be considered.

Salary/Hourly
$33-$36 per hour, benefits eligible.

Overview
The Lynn Police Department seeks an Assistant Crime Analyst to provide support and assistance the the Lynn Police Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) The position requires experience in data analysis, problem solving, research methods, theory, and statistics, preferably in a law enforcement capacity. The analysist must be able to read and understand data, develop and deliver presentations, write reports, research and work independently, think objectively, have good interpersonal skills, and exhibit sound accurate judgement. The position further requires excellent communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as the ability to work with and display sensitivity towards diverse groups of people.

Key Competencies
The position requires experience with database design and automation, including the ability to design, implement and maintain ad hoc and specialized databases regarding specific crime categories, the Analyst must possess a high level of proficiency with relational database and spreadsheet applications including Excel and the use of Microsoft Office Products, experience using and understanding GIS software and extensions (preferred) and a working knowledge of CAD and Records Management Systems (QED preferred). The Analyst should have experience with complex problem-solving projects and the ability to make presentations to department members and other agencies using PowerPoint and other audio/visual aids.

Additional Qualifications
• Knowledge of terminology used in the description of criminal activity
• Knowledge of practices and techniques used in criminal investigations
• Ability to form and design reports, charts, graphs and tables
• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form
• Ability to communicate statistical information concerning crime activities with citizens and department personnel along with analyzing primary data on criminal activity, develop conclusions, project trends, and make recommendations.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or other closely related field of study. Must be fingerprinted and a satisfactory Department of Criminal Justice Information Systems (DCJIS) check to become CJIS/NEXTTEST Compliant.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of research and analysis; technical report writing; statistical analysis as applied to crime patterns; probability assessments and trend analysis.

Responsibilities
• Responsible for conducting analysis and providing timely and pertinent information relating to crime pattern detection, suspect-crime correlation, target-suspect data and crime forecasting
• Provide statistics on current and past crime trends and patterns
• Provide maps when needed using department software.
• Conduct analysis of all available data including crime, CAD and traffic data
• Create and maintain a database of Firearm data to assist in criminal investigations and gun violence reduction.
• Produce a firearm data report
• Build and maintain databases that will assist in past analysis and future forecasting of crime trends and patterns.
• Assist with the development of new and innovative ways to address a proactive approach to policing that takes into account the route causes of crime with the ultimate goal of prevention.
• Monitor and search social media.
• Review records and analyze all appropriate data to produce daily/weekly reports
• Collect, analyze and interpret data and statistics using quantitative and qualitative methodology.
• Develop crime/suspect and suspect/crime correlations and target profile analysis.
• Use computer databases, electronic spreadsheets, desktop publishing, geographical information systems (GIS), word processing, and statistical applications to manipulate, analyze and present data.
• Respond to requests for information and analytical reports.
• Understand and implement assigned duties and responsibilities to support team goals and objectives.
