$78,291.46-$97,864.33 (Salary determined by educational attainment per collective bargaining agreement)

Overview
The City of Lynn seeks an efficient, detail-oriented, versatile, multitasking leader to serve as an Administrative Assistant for the Board of Assessors. The Administrative Assistant will report directly to the Director of Assessing and oversee administrative operations for the Assessing Department.

Qualifications
• High school diploma/Equivalency required; college degree preferred.
• Must have at least five years of experience in assessment administration and possess knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws about the assessment of motor vehicle excise taxes, real and personal property assessments, abatements, and exemptions of property taxes.
• The ideal candidate is an independent problem solver who can manage multiple demands and prioritize the needs of the office and staff.

• Must possess exemplary customer service skills and display the ability to respectfully interact with the general public in addressing their business with the department.

Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting the Board of Assessors in performing and managing administrative support services.
• Acts as a principal assistant to the Director of Assessing for all administrative matters.
• Responsible for supervising office operations, daily routine, and workflow for administrative staff, maintaining work schedules.
• As delegated by the Board of Assessors, make decisions regarding routine motor vehicle excise abatement and personal exemptions.
• Conducts business with the public, employees, and other departments. Answers questions with good judgment and knowledge. Provides information on policies, procedures, services, and Mass General Law when applicable.
• Processing adjustments, abatements, and exemptions to assessed taxes and reconciling those records, ensuring all administrative work is complete at year-end.
• Use sound judgment, discretion, tact, and confidentiality with employee issues.
• Prepare mailings for Income and Expense Forms, Forms of Lists, and Personal Exemptions.
• Enter data into the DLS gateway for exemptions and MV excise reimbursements.

Knowledge, Ability, and Skills
• Ability to deal with the public responsibly and behave ethically.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other related computer software with proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Proficiency with AssessPro or other CAMA software.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong critical thinking and decision-making skills.
• Excellent listening skills
• Conflict resolution and customer service training preferred.
• Fluency in English required, proficiency in an additional language (Spanish, Khmer, Haitian Creole, Arabic et al) highly desirable.
