Salary
$110,674.10 Base Salary
$121,741.51 (Associate’s Degree, Base + 10%)
$132,808.92 (Bachelor’s Degree, Base + 20%)
$138,342.63 (Master’s Degree, Base + 25%)
(Salary determined by level of educational attainment, per collective bargaining agreement with Local 3147)

Overview
The Chief Building Inspector reports to the Director of Inspections and ISD Chief (Building Commissioner) with administrative authority over building, electrical, and plumbing/gas inspectors.

The duties of the Chief Building Inspector include but are not limited to:
• Supervision and management of building, electrical, and plumbing/gas inspectors.
• Workload scheduling, review, and oversight for those inspectors.
• Leave day approval for those inspectors.
• Coordination with other trade inspectors (Sanitary).
• Review and approve plans and specification for the installation, repair, alteration or replacement of buildings and building structural systems for compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances.
• Enforce the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Building Codes, City of Lynn Zone Ordinance and all City of Lynn ordinances authorized.
• Inspect all building projects in process of construction, alteration, replacement and repair for which permits have been issued for compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances.
• Investigate complaints of violation of codes or ordinances and takes action required to correct condition.
• Interprets and gives advice on and enforces building and zoning laws and ordinances.
• Issues permits for building permits and keeps records of all inspections.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret and enforce regulation with tact and impartiality.
• Performs related work as required.
• Other duties regarding the day to day supervision as assigned by the ISD Chief and Director of Inspections.

Qualifications
Massachusetts Building Inspector certification required.
• Minimum High School degree, Associates Degree preferred.
• 3 or more years experience in building design, construction, engineering, architecture or related field.
• 3 or more years supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Must possess and maintain a Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle License
• Must be able to access and traverse construction sites, uneven terrain and work outside in all weather conditions.
